Biomarina
Protecting boats, Saves oceans.
Most modern antifouling paints are self-polishing: they work by slowly eroding in seawater, continuously exposing fresh layers of biocide.
This mechanism has a hidden cost, because every season the eroded coating is released into the sea as fine polymer particles loaded with copper, zinc and synthetic biocides.
Paint particles are now recognised as a significant and long-overlooked source of marine microplastics, accumulating in harbours, marinas and coastal sediments.
BIOMARINA takes a radically different approach: its binder is a bio-based polymer that is fully biodegradable in the marine environment.
As the coating wears, it does not leave persistent plastic fragments behind but is broken down by naturally occurring marine microorganisms.
Its formulation relies on natural active compounds, with no copper, heavy metals, synthetic biocide.
Spray-applied with no primer or gelcoat sanding, BIOMARINA is designed for recreational boating and aquaculture nets.
It turns the weak point of self-polishing paints, their gradual release into the sea, into a process that nature can fully absorb.
BIOMARINA marks the beginning of a new generation of antifouling coatings: effective against fouling, harmless to the sea.
Experimental study conducted by CNR-IAS
The toxicity tests, carried out with a battery of bioassays to assess the ecocompatibility of the experimental antifouling formulation “Aliquid” showed no toxic effects on any of the three model organisms tested. Under the experimental conditions applied, this activity demonstrated that the experimental “Aliquid” formulation has no environmental impact.
Furthermore Aliquid Biomarina paint show antifouling efficacy comparable to traditional paints, with seasonal durability of 4–6 months.

The studies performed confirm that, under the experimental conditions applied, the experimental Aliquid formulation does not release into the water any products toxic to three organisms representative of the marine ecosystem.
Same protection against biofouling. No microplastics.
Within the experimental context of this study, and for a maximum immersion period of 4 months, this formulation would represent an eco-compatible alternative to traditional biocide-containing paints.
